COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN
coming down the mountain
The clip from Coming Down the Mountain shows the stereotype of somebody with a mental disability. The first shot is a birds eye view of the bedroom. this shot showed the boy was thinking they used a dolly shot to to show the distance in thoughts between the two brothers The disabled brother's side of the room has bright colours which shows that he is childish and his brother side of the room is dull and he has a bring me the horizon poster on his wall which shows that he is not childish. This shot makes the audience believe that the disabled brother doesn't act his age, This reinforces the stereotype of vulnerable because a child is vulnerable. you also see the disabled brother learning to ride a bike which shows that he is a child.

This shot makes the audience believe that the disabled brother doesn't act his age, This reinforces the stereotype of vulnerable because a child is vulnerable. you also see the disabled brother learning to ride a bike which shows that he is a child.
in the next scene they use a pre-evolutionary flash back of a dinosaur and fish and then they use a close up on the disabled brothers face to make the audience think that the brother hasnt fully evolved yet which reinforces the stereotype of the disabled brother being ugly and his brother calls him a "potato with eye tentacles". when the disabled brother says that he needs a poo and the dad tells the able bodied brother to go help him shows that the disabled brother cannot take care of himself and this makes the audience feel sorry for the able bodied brother for putting up with his brother.
when the disabled brother eats all of the cereal it makes you feel sorry for the other brother because when the brother tells the disabled brother that he did something wrong the mum and dad get annoyed that the brother had an argument with his disabled which shows that the disabled brother is different and can get away with more than the able bodied brother gets away with.
There are then shot shots of outside scenes. One of these scenes shows the able-bodied brother prentending to shoot his disabled brother. This shows his vulnerability because it makes it seem to the audience that he is an easy target and could easily be attacked the able bodied brother says that his brother always needs someone with him to stop sickos from dragging him off to their sex dungeons.
they use a lot of long shots for the disabled brother to make the audience feel distance from him to show that he is different and not normal.
the clip is shot in a built up area and the costumes show that the disabled brother does not dress himself but the able bodied brother does to show that the disabled brother cannot take care of himself
